This post is written specifically for corporation members and not all information will apply to the general population
From time to time we might find ourselves at the pointy end of someone's stick. Not to worry, though! From past experience we have put together a quick guide to surviving during war. Read on, intrepid pilot!
Why were we wardec'd?
Who knows. Usually it's just a way for some players to get easy kills (unless you did something to upset them... which you should probably speak up about). It is not uncommon for corporations and alliances to start wars in high sec just to prey on perceived weaker players or simply increase the pool of potential victims.
What are my options?
You have a few. All of them are reasonable and no one will judge your decision.
- Stay in corp and fight!
- Head out to a remote area of space far away from war targets and keep your guard up.
- Leave corp and spend the war free from the threat of war targets killing you. When the war is over you are welcome to rejoin the corporation with all of your titles and roles restored.
I want to stay and fight, what should I do?
First thing to do is add all war targets to your watchlist. Go to Eve Who and search for who wardec'd us (Pro Tip: click the * next to a pilot's name to bring up their info in game). From the show info window choose Add Contact, set their standing to Terrible (-10), and select Add To Watchlist check box. You will need to do this for every pilot in their corporation or alliance. This allows you to see their strength and make good decisions on whether to engage or lay low. It is also a good idea to look at their killboard links on Eve Who to see what kind of ships they fly, when they are active, and what kind of targets they have successfully taken down in the past.
Second, train up some necessary PvP skills if you don't have them already:
Propulsion Jamming
Weapon Disruption
Sensor Linking
Electronic Warfare
Third, grab a ship from corporation contracts. Go to EVE Menu > Business > Contracts, then set Availability to My Corporation. From here you can browse all contracts the corporation has or search for a specific ship. You want a ship that you have the best skills for or that fills the role you're interested in flying. We will operate using the Hydra Principle mostly as it is effective and cheap. Any of the following ships will be 100% replaced if lost during war time:
Crucifier
Punisher
Merlin
Condor
Tristan
Incursus
Rifter
Breacher
Alternately, we might use a bait mining fleet (bonus, this lets you continue to mine and gives our enemies pause before shooting at you):
Procurer
If enough pilots are comfortable losing cruisers, we may also form up a cruiser fleet at the discretion of fleet commanders.
Fourth, join a fleet and get on voice comms. Trying to fight solo during a war is almost never a good idea as our war targets will most likely be fighting in groups. If there is not a fleet up start your own and ask in comms if anyone wants to join you.
How can I avoid being killed if I don't want to fight?
This takes some effort, but is actually very easy to do if you follow these precautions:
- Add all war targets to watchlist so you can see if they are online
- Watch local and Immediately dock up if war targets enter system
- Join a fleet and let everyone know where you are in case you need help
War doesn't have to be bad for us. If we work together it will make us a better corp and better players.
